Our Story

BoSoma School of Dance was founded on the belief that dance is not simply an extracurricular activity, it is a powerful art form that has the ability to inspire, educate, and transform lives.

In 2010, founder and Artistic Director Katherine Hooper opened her first dance studio, Mass Motion Dance North, in Peabody, Massachusetts. While continuing to lead the professional BoSoma Dance Company, Katherine dreamed of creating a school where students could receive exceptional technical training while developing confidence, creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Seven years later, Katherine took a leap of faith and relocated the studio to Hamilton, Massachusetts, renaming it BoSoma School of Dance after the professional BoSoma Dance Company she founded in 2002. Bringing the company and the school together under one name reflected a unified vision: to provide the North Shore with high-quality, diverse dance education while strengthening the connection between professional artists and the next generation of dancers.

As the school has grown, so has its impact. What began as one studio has evolved into a thriving dance community that serves students of all ages and abilities while providing meaningful opportunities for dancers, educators, and artists. Throughout that growth, one purpose has remained unchanged—to keep the art of dance alive and accessible by creating a welcoming environment where every student is encouraged to discover their unique voice through movement.

To support BoSoma's growing community, Katherine expanded the school’s reach by opening a second location in Georgetown, Massachusetts, in 2019. Today, BoSoma School of Dance continues to evolve, with the Hamilton campus expanding to five studios to accommodate more students, programs, and opportunities for dancers throughout the North Shore. These expansions reflect BoSoma’s ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming, inspiring environment where students of all ages can experience the joy, discipline, and artistry of dance.

Today, BoSoma School of Dance continues to honor Katherine's vision by enriching the lives of children and families across the North Shore through exceptional dance education, inspiring performances, and a commitment to building a community where artistry, compassion, and excellence flourish together.
