CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
CHILDREN'S CLASSES
Tiny Tots 1 (Ages 2.5-3):
This beginner class for young movers consists of ballet, tap and creative movement introducing young dancers to basic ballet terminology, coordination exercises, music appreciation, and flexibility development. Our faculty and assistants offer a fun and exploratory space for building community and the love for dance within the studio.
Tiny Tots 2 (Ages 4-5):
This beginner class for young movers consists of ballet, tap and creative movement introducing young dancers to basic ballet terminology, coordination exercises, music appreciation, and flexibility development. Our faculty and assistants offer a fun and exploratory space for building community and the love for dance within the studio.
Tot Hop & Tumbling (Ages 3-5):
An alternative to our Tiny Tots program, Tot Hop offers an introduction to dance with a hip hop base. Students learn fun, age appropriate moves to current pop hits (usually the kidz bop versions). Students will learn basic mat tumbling skills focusing on balance, coordination and flexibility in a safe and guided manor.
Level 1 Ballet/Tap/Jazz (Ages 5-6):
Our Level Program is designed to introduce and develop formal dance training to the young dancer consisting of 20 minutes each of Ballet, Jazz and Tap techniques. These combination classes ensure a well-rounded preparatory dance education and inspire.
Level 2 Ballet/Tap/Jazz (Ages 6-7):
Our Level Program is designed to introduce and develop formal dance training to the young dancer consisting of 20 minutes each of Ballet, Jazz and Tap techniques. These combination classes ensure a well-rounded preparatory dance education and inspire.
Level 3 Ballet/Tap/Jazz (Ages 7-9):
Our Level Program is designed to introduce and develop formal dance training to the young dancer consisting of 30 minutes each of Ballet, Jazz and Tap techniques. These combination classes ensure a well-rounded preparatory dance education and inspire. For the older and/or more advanced dancer, each idiom is offered for a longer class time to allow for additional progressions and phrase work.
Ballet Foundations (Ages 8-11):
Ballet Foundations is an extension of our combination Level classes. It is for students in the Level 3 age range who are interested in participating in Ballet only. This class will aid in the transition between Level 3 and Petite Ballet within our program. The class will focus on the fundamentals of ballet focusing on center movements, progressions, and the introduction of the use of the ballet barre. This Foundations level is intended to expand on our Level classes to best prepare each dancer before entering the Petite level.
*NEW* Theatre Jazz Foundations (ages 8-11):
This class introduces the theatrics and fundamentals of Jazz technique in an energetic environment. Dancers will learn the basics along with an emphasis on musicality and expression inspired by Broadway-style Jazz dance. This Foundations level is intended to expand on our Level classes to best prepare each dancer before entering the Petite level.
*NEW* Tap Foundations (ages 8-11):
This beginner class introduces the basics of Tap dance. Rooted in fundamentals skills from Levels 1-3, dancers will learn essential vocabulary while developing an understanding of rhythm, timing, and musicality. This Foundations level is intended to expand on our Level classes to best prepare each dancer before entering the Petite level.
Contemporary / Modern Foundations (ages 8-11):
This beginner class introduces the technique of modern dance. Rooted in Ballet fundamentals, dancers will learn basic ballet vocabulary which will then be combined with release technique, taking the body off-center and moving through space in a creative way through the variation of time, tempo and dynamics. This Foundations level is intended to expand on our Level classes to best prepare each dancer before entering the Petite level.
Petite Ballet (Ages 9-11):
Petite Ballet offers 1 hour of Classical Ballet focusing on the foundation, terminology, progressions and combinations at an advanced beginner to intermediate level. The Intensive training programs are designed for students who are interested in focusing on the art of dance as their primary extracurricular activity throughout the school year. Age, dance experience, as well as ability are considered for placement.
Petite Tap/Jazz (Ages 9-11):
Petite Tap/Jazz offers 1/2 hour of Tap and 1/2 hour of Jazz focusing on the foundation, terminology, progressions and combinations at an advanced beginner to intermediate level. The Intensive training programs are designed for students who are interested in focusing on the art of dance as their primary extracurricular activity throughout the school year. Jr. Int. Ballet offers 1 hour of Classical Ballet and Pointe conditioning focusing on the foundation, terminology, progressions and combinations at an Intermediate Level.
Junior Intermediate Tap (by recommendation: Hamilton
Junior Intermediate Tap consists of a center warm up designed to get the feet and ankles ready to explore and learn how to create rhythms with the feet! This intermediate/advanced level class uses foundational vocabulary to explore more complex progressions and center combinations, rhythm-making, and musicality.
Junior Intermediate Jazz (by recommendation: Hamilton
Jr. Intermediate Jazz class begins with a warm-up and stretches designed to increase flexibility and strengthen the core. Complex progressions across the floor are designed to introduce dancers to weight & direction changes, increased musicality and variation in style. Jazz dance styles taught within the class will include Classical Jazz, Contemporary, Broadway and more.

Junior Advanced Ballet ((by recommendation): Hamilton
Junior Advanced Ballet is a 1 hour ballet class that builds on foundational terminology, and more complex progressions and combinations are taught at an intermediate/advanced level. The class structure consists of barre, center, and progressions, as well as strengthening and conditioning exercises.
Junior Advanced Modern (by recommendation): Hamilton
This Intermediate/ Advanced level modern class is rooted in Ballet fundamentals as a technical base. These skills are then combined with release technique, taking the body off-center and moving through space in a creative way through the variation of time, tempo and dynamics. This class will also focus on body and core strengthening, as well as an increased complexity of movement sequences and an emphasis on clarity of expression, musicality, and quality of performance.
Junior Ballet (by recommendation): Georgetown
Jr. Int. Ballet offers 1.5 hours of Classical Ballet and Pointe conditioning focusing on the foundation, terminology, progressions and combinations at an Intermediate/Advanced Level. The class structure consists of barre, center, and progressions, as well as strengthening and conditioning exercises.
Junior Tap/Jazz (by recommendation): Georgetown
Jr. Tap/Jazz offers 45 minutes of Jazz and 45 minutes of Tap technique focusing on the foundation, terminology, progressions and combinations at an Intermediate/Advanced Level.
Junior Modern (by recommendation): Georgetown
This intermediate level modern class is rooted in Ballet fundamentals as a technical base. These skills are then combined with release technique, taking the body off-center and moving through space in a creative way through the variation of time, tempo and dynamics. This class will also focus on body and core strengthening, as well as an increased complexity of movement sequences and an emphasis on clarity of expression, musicality, and quality of performance.
Senior Intermediate & Advanced Ballet (by recommendation):
This advanced Ballet class consists of a Classical Ballet barre warm up focusing on proper alignment and body articulation, followed by across-the-floor progressions and center adage/allegro combinations designed to challenge the mind and strengthen the body. The class may be taken on pointe at the discretion of the teacher.
Senior Intermediate & Advanced Jazz (by recommendation):
Senior Jazz/Contemporary class begins with a warm-up and stretches designed to increase flexibility and strengthen the core. Complex progressions across the floor are designed to challenge dancers through weight & direction changes, increased musicality and variation in style. Jazz dance styles taught within the class will include Classical Jazz, Contemporary, Broadway and more.
Senior Intermediate & Advanced Modern (by recommendation):
Senior Modern is an advanced class that focuses on strengthening the technical and artistic level of Modern dance, which is rooted in Ballet fundamentals, combined with taking the body off-center and exploring space in a creative way. This class will focus on strengthening the body through Pilates and muscle conditioning. There is also a strong focus on increased complexity of movement sequences and emphasizes clarity of expression, musicality, and quality of performance.
Senior Intermediate & Advanced Tap (by recommendation):
Senior Tap classes consists of a center warm up designed to get the feet and ankles ready to explore and learn how to create rhythms with the feet! This advanced level class uses foundational vocabulary to explore more complex progressions and center combinations, rhythm-making, and musicality.
Advanced Pointe (by recommendation)
By Recommendation Only. One year of pointe conditioning required.
Intermediate/Advanced pointe class consisting of barre, progressions, and center combinations.
Intermediate Pointe (by recommendation):
By Recommendation Only. One year of pointe conditioning required. This Beginner/Intermediate level class will include foundational barre work, progressions, and center combinations. No Recital dance.
*NEW* Beginner Pointe (by recommendation):
By Recommendation Only. This class is designed for dancers who have completed 1–2 years of pointe conditioning and are ready to begin working en Pointe. With a strong emphasis on safety and proper technique, dancers will be introduced to foundational Pointe work through guided introductory barre exercises that focus on strength, alignment, and control. This is a non recital class.
Pre-Pointe Conditioning I & II (by recommendation):
The purpose of this class is to prepare student's feet and ankles for Pointe through strengthening and conditioning exercises. Using tools such as resistance bands and balancing discs, students will focus on strengthening joints and finding proper alignment and balance. Students will be evaluated throughout the year and if deemed ready by the teacher may be recommended to begin Pointe work. No Recital dance.
*NEW* Classic Variations (age 12+):
This mixed-level Ballet variations class focuses on learning classical repertoire in a supportive and challenging environment. Dancers will learn about the history of each Ballet and deepen their understanding of artistry, musicality, and performance quality while refining technique through variations from well-known Ballets. Students may take the class in Ballet slippers or Pointe shoes depending on their level, experience and preference. A Ballet technique class is required in conjunction with this course to ensure proper alignment, strength, and readiness for the demands of variations work.
*NEW* Composition & Choreography (Senior Advanced Only):
This class explores the art of choreography through guided prompts and creative movement exercises. Dancers will experiment with a variety techniques to generate original movement and aid in developing their own choreographic voice. Class will utilize improvisational techniques, examine spatial patterns and investigate timing and dynamics. This class encourages cultivating an understanding of the creative process through curiosity, risk taking, and supportive peer interactions. While many dance classes emphasize technique and the replication of movement, opportunities to develop choreographic skills are often limited. This class aims to bridge that gap by focusing on the creative process giving dancers the tools, structure, and confidence to generate their own movement and think like choreographers, not just performers.
*NEW* Leaps & Turns (age 14+ / senior level only):
Leaps & Turns is a specialty technique class focused on the refinement and enhancement of turning and jumping skills through complex combinations and progressions. Dancers will concentrate exclusively on turns, leaps and jumps while developing strength, flexibility, balance, control, and precision. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, execution, alignment, and performance quality as students work to improve consistency, confidence, and overall technical ability.
BoSoma Youth Company - BYC (Jr & Sr Level):
Students committed to the Junior and Senior Intensive Programs are offered the opportunity to join the BoSoma Youth Company, our pre-professional performance company. BYC participates in performance opportunities throughout the year such as our Annual Winter Concert, the Move for the Movement Cancer Benefit, local festivals and community events, rather than dance competitions. BYC students are required to take Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern classes, as well as attend weekly rehearsals.
Hip Hop (Ages 4-5):
Students learn beginner level Hip Hop concepts and elements while getting all of the benefits of a healthy workout and opportunity to find their own personal expression through movement. These classes are taught to popular, kid-friendly, and age appropriate music.
Hip Hop (Ages 6-8):
Students learn beginner level Hip Hop concepts and elements while getting all of the benefits of a healthy workout and opportunity to find their own personal expression through movement. These classes are taught to popular, kid-friendly, and age appropriate music.
Hip Hop (Ages 8-10 & 9-11):
Students learn intermediate level Hip Hop concepts and elements while getting all of the benefits of a healthy workout and opportunity to find their own personal expression through movement. These classes are taught to popular, kid-friendly, and age appropriate music.
Teen Hip Hop (Ages 10-13, 14+):
Students learn intermediate to advanced level Hip Hop concepts and elements while getting all of the benefits of a healthy workout and opportunity to find their own personal expression through movement. These classes are taught to popular, kid-friendly, and age appropriate music.
Irish Step Level 1 (Beginner, age 5 minimum):
Level 1 is for students with little or no Irish Dance experience. Classes will focus on the basics of Irish Step Dancing (Skip 2-3's, Sevens and Threes, etc.) and students will begin learning traditional Reels and Jigs. This beginner Irish Step class is offered in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment. Additional performances are offered throughout the year, normally during the winter Holiday Season and St. Patrick’s Day at local community events and venues. (Class placement will be at the discretion of the teacher.)
Irish Step Level 2 (by recommendation):
Level 2 is for students with some Irish Dance experience. Classes will continue to focus on the basics of Irish Step Dancing as well as adding to our repertoire of traditional Reels and Jigs. This Irish Step class is offered in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment. Additional performances are offered throughout the year, normally during the winter Holiday Season and St. Patrick’s Day at local community events and venues. (Class placement will be at the discretion of the teacher.)
Irish Step Level 3 (by recommendation):
Level 3 is for students with at least two year’s of Irish Dance. In this class, students will learn more complex traditional Reels and Jigs as well as be introduced to Treble Reels (hard shoe dancing). This Irish Step class is offered in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment. Additional performances are offered throughout the year, normally during the winter Holiday Season and St. Patrick’s Day at local community events and venues. (Class placement will be at the discretion of the teacher.)
Irish Step Level 4 (by recommendation):
Level 4 is for students with a solid knowledge of Irish Dance. In this class, students will continue to add to our repertoire of traditional Reels, Jigs, Treble Reels (hard shoe dancing) as well as be introduced to Slip Jigs. This Irish Step class is offered in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment. Additional performances are offered throughout the year, normally during the winter Holiday Season and St. Patrick’s Day at local community events and venues. (Class placement will be at the discretion of the teacher.)
Irish Step Level 5 (by recommendation):
Level 5 is for students with an advanced knowledge of Irish Dance and placement is solely at the discretion of the teacher. Classes will focus on more complex Reels, Jigs, Slip Jigs, Treble Reels (hard shoe dancing) as well as traditional Hornpipes, Heavy Jigs and Set Dances. This Irish Step class is offered in a non-competitive, supportive and fun environment. Additional performances are offered throughout the year, normally during the winter Holiday Season and St. Patrick’s Day at local community events and venues.
Irish Step Level 6 (by recommendation):
Level 5 is for students with an advanced knowledge of Irish Dance and placement is solely at the discretion of the teacher. Musical Theater I & II (Ages 9-11/Ages 12+):
Musical Theater class is designed to develop jazz and character skills, and strengthen theatrical performance quality. Using classical and contemporary Broadway musicals and shows, students will develop an appreciation for the combination of dance and theater.
Acro For Dancers (Ages 6-9/Ages 10+):
In this beginner level acro class, students will learn gymnastics fundamentals in a safe, encouraging environment. Acrobatic skills increase strength and flexibility, and well as body awareness, coordination and control. This is a class based on skill building. *This class DOES NOT participate in the Recital
Adaptive Dance (ages 4-8):
Adaptive dance classes can provide a more flexible, individually supportive environment for young dancers with specialized needs.
This Developmental Dance class for ages 4-8 will emphasize:
building social/emotional skills including self esteem, peer relationships, teamwork and self expression through movement activities.
practicing following a classroom routine.
movement coordination, body awareness and exploration of new movement styles.
This specialized classroom environment will allow more flexibility for all levels of participation and can be adapted to students’ individual needs. Developmental dance will provide experiences that support and enrich students’ development of skills while engaging in fun, expressive activities! Dress Code: comfortable clothing that allows for a full range of movement
ADULT CLASSES
Adult Ballet (18+)
This beginner/intermediate class is perfect for adults brand new to ballet, or those who have a background in ballet, and are looking to get back into it! Classes will consist of basic barre exercises, progressions across the floor, and center combinations.
Dress Code: comfortable fitness clothes or dancewear, hair pulled back off of face
Shoes: Ballet slippers, barefoot, or socks
Adult Tap (18+)
This intermediate level class will begin with a center warm up designed to get the feet and ankles ready to explore and learn how to create rhythms with the feet! Students will learn basic tap vocabulary, and combine these skills into progressions across the floor as well as center combinations. Knowledge of basic tap vocabulary is recommended.
Dress Code: comfortable fitness clothes or dancewear, hair pulled back off of face
Shoes: any style Black or Tan Tap shoes (low heel)
Adult Modern (18+)
This Intermediate level modern class is rooted in Ballet fundamentals as a technical base. These skills are then combined with release technique, taking the body off-center and moving through space in a creative way through the variation of time, tempo and dynamics. This class will also focus on body and core strengthening, as well as an increased complexity of movement sequences and an emphasis on clarity of expression, musicality, and quality of performance.
Dress Code: comfortable fitness clothes or dancewear, hair pulled back off of face
Shoes: bare feet or socks
